In Newton’s third law of physics, the concept of action and reaction describes the interaction between two bodies that inflict equal force in opposite direction to one another. But when a force is unbalanced, it causes excessive stress, changing an object’s form and location. In the design of these candleholders, two complementary cylindrical shapes push and pull against each other, affecting their form and orientation. The resulting deformations, which bear the traces of contrary forces all around, allow for multiple configurations. The objects can be displayed separately, but when together, become an expression of inert movement in equilibrium.

Each object is sanded by hand to enhance the unique appearance of the piece. Use with either tea lights or taper candles.
